Some companies sell granite overlay or quartz overlay, advertising it as granite transformations or quartz transformations. Granite overlay is an artificial, thin layer of crushed granite, quartz, or other stone held together with resin (much like Quartz countertops). Granite overlay is usually as light as a quarter inch and is meant to be installed directly over existing countertops. Sometimes you’ll even see multiple layers of granite overlay installed upon one another before needing to be torn out to start new again.

We don’t do granite or quartz overlay at Countertop Concepts. We strongly recommend completely replacing your existing countertops with a new stone that suits you! Granite overlay isn’t necessarily cheaper than a complete replacement; in fact, often, it’s cheaper to replace your countertops with full-thickness granite or quartz.
