Is It Cheaper to Reface Cabinets or Replace?

There are three options for redoing your kitchen or bathroom cabinets: replace, reface, or resurface. To replace them outright is typically the most expensive offer. When that’s your choice, the kitchen will be off-limits for however long that takes, so be prepared to order takeout.

The second most expensive way to remodel the cabinets is to reface them. This entails replacing the cabinet doors and hardware to give your kitchen a new look and feel. While cheaper than replacing all the cabinetry, this can still be expensive.

The third option is to resurface your existing cabinetry by stripping away the old finish and either staining or painting a new one. This option is typically the cheapest, but that doesn’t mean it looks bad! When considering your kitchen or bathroom, it’s best to get quotes on what all options would cost to see the price difference. Every situation is a little different, so maybe it would be worth your time or effort to replace the existing cabinets over resurfacing or refacing them simply.
